The founding of the Federal Republic as a democratic West German sub-state with a western connection on 24 May 1949 was followed by the founding of the socialist GDR on 7 October 1949 as an East German sub-state under Soviet domination.
The inner German border was blocked after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1961. After the peaceful uprising of the GDR in 1989, the German question was resolved by the reunification of the two regions on 3 October 1990.
The mother tongue of population is the German language.
In addition to the German language, there are regional and minority languages and migrants with other native languages.
The most important second language is English.
Time zone: Central European time (CET) applies in Germany. Between the end of March and the end of October, the clocks will be presented for an hour (daylight saving time).
